Milestone for Food Distribution
Today, August 14th., 2009 the Middle Georgia Community Food Bank reached a milestone in food distribution. The Community Church of God received the 100,000,000 th pound of donated food. The significance lies as much in the fact that we actually have provided 100,000,000 pounds of food to the needy families, seniors, children, and homeless in Middle Georgia as it reflects in the facts that thousands of volunteers, donors, and a dedicated staff have maintained our mission of providing food to Middle Georgia. We invite you to celebrate with us and to continue to support our mission in Middle Georgia. Hunger needs are being met, however, we are far from ending hunger in Middle Georgia. The current economic atmosphere attests to the continued needs of Middle Georgia families, seniors, and children. Thank you for all of your past support and for your future support.
The Census is IMPORTANT:
The U. S. Constitution requires a national census once every 10 years. Every year, more than $300 billion in federal funds is awarded to states and communities based on census data. Census data affect your voice in Congress by determining how many seats each state will have in the House of Representatives.
The Census is SAFE:
The Census Bureau does not release or share information that identifies individuals or their houshold for 72 years. The Census questionaire will not ask for a social security number.
The Census is EASY:
The 2010 Census questionaire asks only a few simple questions of each person - name, relationship, gender, age, and date of birth, race, and whether the individual owns or rents his or her home. It takes only a few minutes to complete and return by mail.
The census is important to the Food Bank because we receive food and funds based on the census data collected in our Service Area. Our present level, based on the 2000 Census, is merely 9% of the state's total of federally generated food and funds. We encourage you to be on the "look out" for and accurately reply to the Census 2010 questionaire - our "share" of food and funds is directly impacted by your participation. THANKS!
